Captain Dan spends winter and early spring where the bass fishing is about as good as it gets--anywhere!! Lake Okeechobee covers over 700 square miles in south central Florida and is home to bass fishing tournaments and recreational fishing for residents and snowbirds alike. Bass routinely run in the 6- to 9-pound range, and there are bigger ones to be found. We also fish for catfish, crappie, tilapia, and other freshwater species.
Our new 22-foot Nautic Star is a floating tackle box, and Captain Dan carries a variety of gear for all skill levels. A specialty on the Lake for live bait anglers is fishing with shiners--large, good-swimming minnows that bass can't resist.
Lake Okeechobee is home to a wide variety of Florida wildlife. You're sure to see alligators, eagles, osprey, egrets, cranes, herons, and many species of ducks. It's a birder's paradise.
Our Nautic Star 224XTS comfortably carries up to 4 anglers plus your guide. For larger parties, a pontoon boat is available for rent; ask about prices.
Half-day trips last 5 hours and cost $250 total for up to 3 anglers; a 4th costs $75 more. Your party charters the boat exclusively. This includes gear, tackle, and artificial lures. Live bait can be purchased on site (extra), and anglers will need Florida fishing licenses, which can be purchased easily on-line or in the area (inexpensive temporary out-of-state licenses available).
We operate from J&S Fish Camp, 15 miles from the town of Okeechobee, on the northeast side of the Lake. The closest airport is West Palm Beach. J&S has a great little bar, a bait shop, cabins, and plenty of free parking. Check it out at www.jandsfishcamp.net. Fish cleaning station on site. We can also trailer to other nearby locations, including to the coast for in-shore fishing out of Stuart. Call for prices.
